Baby's First Field Trip

We went on our first field trip yesterday and no one died!

The truck's antifreeze situation got fixed and I got out of class early and the BF agreed to go with us to lend a hand just to make sure everything went smoothly... Basically the stars aligned!

There was lots going on at the house. The landlord is repairing the deck with loud powertools, all the roommates were home, big trucks were driving past and Maisie was on high alert and she couldn't figure out whether to spook or not but there were too many things to spook at. But she loaded up well and the drive to the barn was uneventful.

So cute

At the barn she was still on high alert and was quite talkative. I took her into the arena and let her explore for a while. She whinnied quite a bit, but wasn't too scared of anything. She nosed all the traffic cones, chairs, and knocked over some jump blocks. After exploring inside for a while we walked around outside, said hi to a tractor and another boarder. I was worried she wouldn't want to load up again but she hopped right back into the trailer with no issue.

Cute little trot

Somehow by the time she got home she had somehow gotten slack in her lead rope and wrapped it around her neck, but luckily didn't strangle herself. She seems well behaved enough that we can use the trailer tie instead of the blocker tie ring next time so that won't be an issue.

Overall, it was very successful! She was spooky and high strung, but despite that she listened well and was a good baby. She was definitely reaching the end of her rope when we got home and tried to take cute pictures, but that's understandable since she's only 8 months. I cannot wait for this summer to go on more field trips and learn how to pony!!

Just measured at 13.1 hh

  1. Getting a rope around her neck is seriously scary! Glad it was all ok and the field trip went really well!

    1. I know, thank goodness it was a short drive and she didn't fall down! Next time for sure she'll be on a short lead.
